Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 27, 2026
OpenAstro respects your privacy. Here's the plain-language version of what this site does and doesn't collect.
What we collect
- Website analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: pages visited, approximate location (country/region), browser, and how you found us. IP addresses are anonymized, we do not use Google's advertising or audience features, and we never see who you are individually. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish visitors; see Google's privacy policy for how Google processes this data. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or any content blocker.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard web server logs (IP address, user agent, pages requested) for security and operational purposes.
- Beta launch list (only if you sign up). If you join the Ara Pro launch list, we store the email address you give us, along with the signup time and IP address (kept briefly for abuse prevention). We use it for exactly one thing: sending you an email when the Ara Pro Beta goes live. No newsletters, no marketing, nothing else. The list is stored in a private file on our own server, never in a third-party marketing platform. Want off the list? Reach us on Discord or GitHub and we'll delete your entry.
- Nothing else. No advertising, no accounts, no selling or sharing of data.
We never sell your data
Let's be direct: we do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data. Not to anyone, not for anything. We never have, and we never will. This is the same promise we've kept for the 1,600+ Black Mirror Studio customers we serve worldwide, and it carries over to everything OpenAstro does. Your email is a trust you place in us to say hello exactly once on launch day, and that's all it will ever be used for.
Third-party services
- Cloudflare Turnstile. The launch-list signup form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots. When you complete the verification, Cloudflare processes technical signals from your browser to tell humans from bots; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. Turnstile does not track you across sites and shows no ads.
- Links to external services (Discord, GitHub, and vendor websites) are governed by those services' own privacy policies once you leave this site.
The software
OpenAstro software (AlpacaBridge, Ara, OpenAstro Linux) runs entirely on your own hardware and does not phone home or collect telemetry.
